The Importance of Vision

"Vision is a preferred future. A destination. Vision always stands in contrast to the world as it is. Visioneering is a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be." - Adam Stanley

“Vision is a picture of the future that produces passion.” - Bill Hybels

“Without vision, the people perish.” - Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

Examples:

PURPOSE:

1. “Advancing people’s capacity to explore the heavens.”

2. “Being the best I can be.”

VISION:

1. “A man on the moon by the end of the 1960s.”

2. “Breaking the 4 minute mile.”

“It’s not what the vision is, it’s what it does.” - Peter Senge, The Fifth Discipline

Who We Are -IFES

1. IFES exists to reach students in every nation with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to send them into the world to bear witness to Christ and his teaching.

2. to pioneer student work on unreached campuses and to establish a vibrant evangelical student movement in every country of the world.

Evangelists vs. Evangelistic Leaders

In your opinion, what’s the difference?

“The gift of leadership is the catalytic gift that energizes, directs, and empowers all the other gifts.” - Bill Hybels

Visionary Leadership

Vision for evangelism leaks! At EVERY level!

Roughly every 43 days.

Keeping evangelism central requires MORE energy than other values.

Effective leaders are always monitoring vision leakage. They stand ready to recast the vision whenever necessary. Most leaders frankly, don’t cast the vision enough. They blame followers for faltering commitment, not realizing that they have faltered in their role of vision caster.” - Bill Hybels

Being a Visionary Leader

SEE the vision for ourselves.

FEEL the vision for ourselves.

OWN the vision for ourselves.

Being a Visionary Leader

Am I submitted to God?

Am I asking for His vision or for Him to bless my plans?

Have I fasted?

Have I prayed or waited on God in solitude?

Is there sin in my life that needs to be dealt with?

Have I read, traveled, or investigated other models?

What would a BHAG be?

How do we gain clarity?

Being a Visionary Leader

EMBODY it personally.

Communicate it ONE-ON-ONE.

Communicate the vision PUBLICLY.

How does vision spread?

Personal Time

Dream and pray about your country/campus.

Use the paper and markers to draw what you want to see.

Share within your group.
