What we believe

We are a Christian organisation and we believe that the God of the Bible – Father, Son and Spirit - is real and knowable. This is something of what He is like:

He is the creator of all that is and ever has been – including you and I – and because of this everything find its identity in relationship to Him. You, like me, are created in the image and the likeness of the living God!

He is the sustainer of all things – it is His concern and influence which keeps the Universe in its constant balance – and which keeps the earth capable of supplying the needs of humanity. He is the one who provides real individual security for us.

He is the Father – as Creator he is responsible for all that is, but more than that He wants us to know Him as a Father because He is not a distant and abstract God who leaves the universe spinning its merry way, rather He is the creator of relationships and longs for us to know the joy of knowing Him as well as we know anyone.

He is not hidden – contrary to popular myth it is very possible to see and know the character of God. He sent His Son, Jesus, who is His exact likeness, to be God on earth. The Bible is God’s word – His revelation of Himself to us.

He is the judge – in a time when morality seems to be up for grabs, our God says ‘there is real right and wrong’, and one day everybody – whether the vilest villain or the sweetest old lady – is going to have to account for the right and wrong choices they have made in life. This gives hope to those who feel on the wrong end of injustice, but also a warning to those of us who feel we can get away with anything.

He is the Hope of the world – you see the amazing message of Christianity is that God will judge every person, and that every single one of us will be found guilty of doing what is wrong (I know it and I’m sure you do), but God has already taken our punishment on Himself in the person of Jesus, and He has raised Jesus to life after He died on the cross. The God of the Bible guarantees us eternal life and forgiveness for everything we’ve ever done wrong – if we put our trust in Him.

Hey and in case you think I’m making this up, check out the passage below from the New Testament book of Acts…
Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things. For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I announce to you. The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live, and move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man. The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”
